Antique Mannequins
The first full-scale mannequins appeared in the 18th Century and were made of wickerwork often used for tailoring and dressmaking for many a wealthy client.
It wasn’t until the 19th Century when Paris first opened its department stores mannequins were developed and manufactured for fashion display where America and Britain soon followed suit.
Among the first mannequins to be patented were those designed by Professor Lavigne who went on, together with a student of his, Fred Stockman (who founded Stockman Brothers in 1869, later Siegel and Stockman's) to build his mannequin empire.
We are always on the look out for antique mannequins for our online antiques shop in Hereford, they are beautiful items for practical use or decorative display.
